Clean Out Your LifeCloset is a conceptual work of self-help fiction penned by author Corbie Mitleid. Taking a step aside from traditional self-help literature, this volume is neither a personal experience tale or a series of mantras to work as a catch-all metaphor for everyone’s life. Instead, Mitleid offers the book as an interactive experience that readers can complete and personalize to their own needs, with varied suggestions and acknowledgements of the differences that people experience in life. Throughout this, there is a strong theme of how to overcome not feeling good enough, changing perceptions on failure, mindfulness and low self-esteem, as well as how to unload emotional baggage that might be holding you back.
There is a huge amount to go through in this volume, which makes it high on the variety and diversity scale for being able to offer people multiple perspectives on their problems. Whilst that might be overwhelming to some readers, those seeking a more personalized therapeutic approach are encouraged to use the book as a manual rather than lore, and take from it what they need whilst leaving other parts behind. I particularly enjoyed the mindfulness concepts that were used, for example noticing what’s happening outside your window and viewing ordinary things as if you were alien to them. The writing style was cogent but also relaxed and personalized, making it feel like author Corbie Mitleid was always present in a supportive, but not intrusive way. Overall, Clean Our Your LifeCloset offers a variety of practical suggestions in the way that a friend might, making it a very effective interactive book indeed.
