Case Master: Thoughtful Cases for Competitive Future Consultants by Valentin Nugmanov, Ph.D. and Ronald Clouse, Ph.D. is an extremely well-constructed book which can assist individuals or classes to understand the techniques for effectively interviewing clients, analyzing their business situations, identifying key issues, and making recommendations to provide effective advice to businesses. The book allows the reader to observe an actual interview in each case in the “Listening In” section, obtain and analyze the information provided in the “Let’s Debrief” section, and then develop effective solutions in the “Practicing the Case” section. Even the often overlooked “blind spot” in cases is addressed, bringing additional information into the cases.
I was very impressed by the excellent scenarios and development of the cases. It allows great creativity for instructors and I can see this as an excellent supplemental textbook. Case Master can be used to reinforce business concepts and teach the tools of consulting to business classes. The instructor can creatively use the cases in many ways. By using this book as an individual learner or presented as a supplement in a class setting, the cases will allow the reader/student(s) to gain valuable information in how to effectively ask the right questions in an interview and obtain the information necessary, analyze that information, and put together a solution and implementation plan for clients.
I highly recommend Case Master: Thoughtful Cases for Competitive Future Consultants by Valentin Nugmanov, Ph.D. and Ronald Clouse, Ph.D. for anyone who wishes to improve their skills as a business consultant. Further, it can be used effectively as a supplemental textbook to allow students the opportunities to apply business principles to these well-developed cases. Both practicing and future consultants may gain insights by utilizing this book in their learning development.
