In 2006, Ruth Levine was anticipating the beginning of her new career as an Occupational Therapist. Instead, she began developing aches and pains and found herself diagnosed with Stage Four Colon Cancer. With her husband Mike at her side, she began her rounds of visits to specialists including Dr. Wong at Sloan Kettering Institute in New York City. Her cancer might have spread to her kidneys and the outlook was not very good for Mrs.Levine. However, Mrs. Levine was always a fighter, and refused to acknowledge cancer as a part of her being. She exercised at a gym, engaged in Reiki, a form of meditation, ate health-promoting foods, endured chemotherapy and radiation, and finally underwent eight and a half hours of surgery at Sloan Kettering. Ruth Levine tells of the horrific pain, the surgical complications, the blockages, the fevers and infections and the general trauma of recovering from massive surgery in a clear, calm voice that will inspire many, many readers.
"Cancer Warrior" is Ruth Levine's story not just of her surviving a terrible diagnosis but of her determination to live. As an author, she is quite candid about what she went through and writes clearly of each step she took along the way to recovery. No "Goody Two Shoes" this lady is; Ruth Levine tells of her darkest moments and how she overcame the too many adversities that she faced. This is a book that should be on all library shelves for patrons to find and adore.
