Billy Beakhorn and the Booger Man by Melanie Michael is about Billy Beakhorn who blows his nose onto his sleeve when he coughs and sneezes. What comes out of his nose is not normal, it's slimy and icky. The muck becomes Booger Man and he comes to play with the kids. All that snot frightens the kids. The Booger Man would slip into the kids' rooms in the night. Everyone was scared of this bully made out of snot. He gave all the kids a nasty cold; all the schools and stores were closed and there was mucus dripping everywhere. Will Billy Beakhorn be able to help solve this big problem?
Booger Man is yucky and icky, but will definitely teach children good manners and to use a tissue to wipe their noses and not wipe on their sleeves. Parents and grandparents can read this out to their kids and grandkids while putting them to sleep. The book can also be used for interactive sessions in classrooms and school libraries. All kids need to be taught good manner and how to clean themselves after a sneeze and this book does just that.
It's a delightfully icky story with a good concept. Stories like this will definitely connect well with young readers, and through this icky story readers will understand the need to blow their noses into a tissue instead of wiping it on their sleeves. The bright and colorful illustrations are lively and they make the concept, characters, and the scenes come alive.
