Can a child born into a dysfunctional family situation and under difficult circumstances take control of her destiny and define her fate? In An Angel with Secrets, Marti Eicholz tells the story of Angel, “aka” Angie, born in prison. Her mother, Mary, raises her behind bars for 18 months before sending her off to her drug-addicted father, now living with his hairdresser girlfriend, Sophia. But when things go awry between Luke and Sophia, Angel is left with Sophia. She runs off when she is just six and eventually ends up in a home where she lives with strangers. Here she will discover love and develop into a strong and focused woman. But can she forget her past and forge a purpose for her future? Angel’s story is an inspiring tale of self-discovery, love, and how a forlorn young girl grows up to find and embrace her purpose.
An Angel with Secrets is brilliantly told against the backdrop of a well-defined and somewhat colorful setting. It is the story of resilience and how grit can transform one's humanity into stuff on which success is built. It is told in a strong and compassionate voice and features characters that are well developed; a love story that brings meaning into a young woman’s life. The prose is beautiful and the author’s diction accessible. Angel is a strong character that readers will want to follow and I enjoyed the way the author explores her character. Her worldview as a child is well depicted in the story. An Angel with Secrets is engaging and utterly delightful, filled with realism and a lot of entertainment.
