A Sinister Obsession by S.B. Redstone consists of murder and love in one neatly wrapped package. It follows Detective Aubrey McKenzie, a cop with a unique gift, as she follows the stench of evil. The killer uses multiple pseudonyms to achieve a macabre goal. This, in itself, causes frustration between Aubrey and her teammate, Josh. Their attraction to one another only serves to complicate the situation further when Aubrey unleashes her temper. George and Ann Marr are the first to die and from there the killer's sad tale and the resulting obsession is revealed.
S.B. Redstone has written a surprisingly complex story of one person's quest for acceptance and love. The range of personalities of the main characters is vast and this makes A Sinister Obsession an interesting and well-researched read. It often made me wonder, 'Okay, Aubrey, what have you got for me now?' She is definitely one feisty female! You can't help but sympathise with her co-workers at times. She may just have you rolling your eyes with exasperation, too. Her teammate, Josh, does a great job of keeping her on the straight and narrow. The romance between the two protagonists complements the acts of the killer. It softens the pace of the action at key moments nicely. A Sinister Obsession is a novel that could keep some readers up at night because of the graphic nature of the crimes. But, I didn't find them offensive or over the top. They were necessary to inform readers of just how wicked and depraved the killer is. A Sinister Obsession makes for good reading, just right for lovers of paranormal mysteries.
