How does one go from having a great childhood, parents, and family to falling down the rabbit hole of depression? Melanie left home at eighteen to move in with her boyfriend because she felt like an adult. She didn’t need her parents anymore. Melanie dropped out of college, and her controlling boyfriend went to jail again. Alone, unaccomplished, lost, and estranged from those who loved her, self-hate gained entrance, and the walls started closing in. Melanie shares the journey of how she moved from the dark pits of depression into the light, highlighting tools that helped her. A New Lease On Life by Melanie Wagner is a power-packed book targeted at helping people in similar situations. Melanie says you are not beyond redemption, but you must get up and fight!
A New Lease On Life by Melanie Wagner is a thought-provoking book that came about when I just read the story of a successful rapper who was depressed and hanged himself. It doesn’t matter how much a person is worth, the privileges they have, or the influence they wield. Depression is deep-seated. It seeps out of the soul and takes over a person while leaving them confused about what is happening. There is not enough awareness of mental health illnesses, especially depression and anxiety. Melanie came to a place of self-awareness, reformed her mindset, and took the first determined step to become better. I have a healthy dose of respect for her because she held only herself responsible for the failures and bad choices she made. Melanie is bold, focused, resilient, and well-grounded! She was honest with herself and acknowledged a problem, which led to her growth. I highly recommend this book to people at low points in their lives. You will find actionable steps to becoming whole in this book. Thank you for sharing, Melanie.
