A Knight's Reward: Knight's Series, Book 2 by Catherine Kean follows the tale of Gisela, a woman who is on the run with her little boy, fleeing an abusive marriage. Gisela settles in a town called Clovebury where she finds work as a tailor. Gisela is determined to make enough money and flee to the North with Ewan when she happens upon an old flame. Dominic never expected to see his first love while out on a mission and, even worse, to find out she might be involved with the missing shipment of silk.
I can say that I enjoyed A Knight's Reward by Catherine Kean more than the first book. We are given a much richer backstory for the characters in this story which allows the reader to sympathize and relate to them more. I also found Gisela’s character to be particularly endearing in the way that she picked herself up and was determined to find a better life for herself and Ewan, even though she was battered and bruised from her marriage. I also really liked Dominic; he presents as the strong-willed and steadfast male lead who refuses to waver in the face of adversity.
The narration by James Gillies was well suited to this book. Gillies has a voice that was made for these medieval stories. He allows the listener to become engrossed in the story and his narration always has a way of evoking deep emotions throughout the audio experience. I can safely say that I have become a fan of this narrator.
