A Fray of Furies is a work of fiction in the fantasy, action and adventure sub-genres, and was penned by author A. Van Wyck. Written as the second novel in The Waking Worlds series, this is a work that is recommended for mature reading audiences owing to the suggestion of some sexual violence in the context of the story. We find ourselves in the presence of an ensemble cast who must now adapt to new circumstances and trials. Assassin Nin is still on the hunt for a corpse, whilst Kassika Blackwater makes her way to the nation’s capital. As everyone finds their new path, a darker force begins to rumble beneath the surface, threatening dire change once again.
Author A. Van Wyck has crafted a fascinating and fully-fledged epic fantasy world that has a lot to offer fans of the genre. One of the aspects which I particularly enjoyed in the work was its strength and variety of character, which brings a level of emotion and realism to this far-flung place. Jimmy’s story really touched me and was very representative, but all of the different central characters have their moments to shine. As one would expect in an epic fantasy work, the worldbuilding is developed to a high standard, with small local village details right up to higher political and military structures being well thought out. This, when combined with an atmospheric writing style and dynamic dialogue, gives you a novel that has it all. Overall, I would highly recommend A Fray of Furies to fantasy readers everywhere.
