If you enjoy crime mystery stories that move along quickly, thanks to easy-flowing dialogue, minimum descriptions, and an ever-evolving plot with lots of whodunit possibilities, pick up Yard Goat by Raymond M. Flynt. A member of Mystery Writers of America, this prolific writer has cranked out eleven suspense-filled novels, seven of which feature his protagonist Brad Frame, a private investigator who helped solve the mystery behind the kidnapping and murder of his own mother and sister. In Yard Goat, we find Brad somewhat reluctant to take on a wealthy client’s request to locate her missing husband, Carlin, because of bad blood between Brad’s own father and Carlin. But like a tide dragging him back into the surf, Brad keeps being sucked into the mystery and, of course, needs to solve it to the satisfaction of both the police, the characters involved, and the reader.
The characters, setting and events of Yard Goat, which take place just after 9/11, highlight the life of the rich flitting around in private jets and lounging around pools in their beautiful estates. There are some readers who just love that, especially if they can only dream of living that life. But as becomes obvious in this novel, the higher one’s position in society and business, the greater the competition and your risk of being toppled. But when it comes to good old-fashioned love and marriage, there is very little difference between the rich and the poor: infidelity is still too often a motive for murder. Enjoy solving the murder in Yard Goat with Brad Frame and don’t be surprised if you end up checking out Raymond M. Flynt's other books. An easy, quick and satisfying read.
