Wolf's Blood: Plague of Snowbrook by Meagan Poetschlag is a mesmerizing tale, suspenseful, and exciting, a story centered on a mysterious plague, a dark family secret and wolves. Clair Wilson is nineteen when her parents decide to leave everything behind in San Diego, moving into the bucolic town of Snowbrook, Oregon. Her mother is hired by the University of San Diego where she is required to use her skills as a microbiologist to research a deadly disease that is killing animals and wildlife. Her father, Dean Wilson, gets a promotion as a detective. Although the Wilsons would like to keep to themselves for fear of exposure to the deadly disease, Clair quickly makes friends with the mysterious Aidan Wolff, who introduces her to the town. But something mysterious begins to happen. Clair starts having strange dreams, haunted by a wolf with blue eyes and black fur. One has to read on to see the link between her dreams, the wolf, and the plague.
There is a lot that I enjoyed about Wolf's Blood: Plague of Snowbrook. First, Meagan Poetschlag’s writing is impeccable and she has the gift of creating settings that readers can vividly visualize, places that seem familiar because they are well-captured by the descriptive prose. The characters are interesting and readers will love to watch them evolve through the story. The plot is well-paced and the opening presents a dramatic moment, a family packing up everything that matters to them into a car, distributing what they don’t need to friends and neighbors, and leaving their home to face the unknown. The conflict develops around the mysterious disease and quickly escalates to involve family history and wolves. I loved the swift pacing, the compelling characters, and the colorful setting. The story is very entertaining, crafted with a satisfying denouement.
