Detective Sarah Stone was on the tail of someone she believed to be a serial killer after many missing girls were reported. There seemed to be a pattern. After hitting roadblocks with her boss trying to get help, she took off on her own. The decision led to a tragedy that would traumatize her forever. She left New York for the Winter Garden Police Department, where she met the legendary Jack Sledge. It was an attraction at first sight, but Sarah didn’t do relationships and Jack preferred his life in order. When the serial killer showed up again, the duo was billed to go undercover. However, for Sarah, it was a revenge mission. Will they hold on to their rules or will the heart win? Can they take down this elusive killer? Find out in Winter Garden by Rebecca Winkler.
Winter Garden by Rebecca Winkler is an interesting mix of romance and suspense. It will appeal to those readers who love both detective and romance stories. The plot was one of a kind, featuring themes like betrayal, love, trust, loyalty, deception, and mental health issues. I saw how a cycle of madness can start with just one error during childhood. It reinforced the need for parents to be attentive to their children and mindful of leaving them with caregivers. Abused children give rise to unhinged adults. The character development was superb, especially Max’s. Rebecca Winkler made Sarah the star of the show, which I enjoyed, even though she was sometimes too stubborn for my liking. The dialogues and writing style packed enough punches to escalate the suspense, bringing me to a satisfying end. This is a beautiful book, and Rebecca should give us more.
