Wings of the Wind: Inspirational Poetry by Diana Wallis Taylor is a collection of poems that make for an enjoyable read, hugely inspiring and gems to feed both the mind and the heart. The poems are filled with religious themes, ranging from a spiritual perception of the world to seeing the light of the spirit in things that are seemingly mundane. The author talks about relationships, about humanity and existence, about hope and faith, and about the beauty in nature — a beauty that reflects the beauty of the creator. Each poem is well written with a powerful rhythm and the writing is condensed and filled with symbolism.
The strong symbolism is felt as the reader starts with the first poems. For instance, “In My Father’s House" has religious symbolism when the author talks about a room for her, a room filled with life and light and joy, evoking some of the powerful gifts of the spirit and of a genuine encounter with God. I particularly enjoyed how the author sees the beauty in things and appreciates the poetic character of natural things. “I see a poem in the sea / and in the starry / light. / A river warbles line and verse / in morning’s rosy light.” This is poetry of the soul and the heart and as one reads those poems that are intimate, thanks to the use of the pronoun “I,” one begins to identify with the emotions and thoughts of the poet and to feel her humanity. Diana Wallis Taylor has a beautiful poetic voice and Wings of the Wind: Inspirational Poetry feels like music to the soul.
