Why Me, Oh Lord, Why Me? is the story of Jane, told in her own words. After Jane’s death her sister Rebecca published this account as Jane had requested. Jane was a born again Christian. She was also a schizophrenic. Like most people when I think of schizophrenic I think mentally ill, medications, mental wards and psychiatrists. Like most people I believed that born again Christians cannot be filled with demons. If we are totally filled with the Holy Spirit there will be no room for demons to dwell. Reading Jane’s story shakes all those beliefs.
I suspected child abuse when I first began reading this story. I am still unconvinced that Jane was not abused. Her father was more than stern. Her mother also seemed to be more than strict.
I know someone with schizophrenia. I know as soon as I see him when he is “different.” I admire the strong women and men in this story who allowed God to use them to help Jane.
The first part of this book was interesting but it was the last half that mesmerized me. I could not lay this book down. The author has been brutally honest. She allows readers to see the bad and the worst of her life. Jane is to be commended for sharing her story in hopes of helping others.
