Author Biography

Named “LA’s Funniest Lady” by the (now-defunct) Los Angeles Herald Examiner, Brooke Jones has spent many years being on – on the radio, on the stage, and on the computer.

Her Memoir, “Why Are There Monkeys? (and other questions for God)” – the absolutely TRUE, deeply INSPIRATIONAL, laugh-out-loud FUNNY story of her Near- Death Question & Answer Session with God has just been published & if you think a CONVERSATION WITH GOD couldn’t possibly be FUNNY, you’re in for a BIG surprise!

Being a Journalist, Jones refused to tell anyone about her “Divine Experience”, unless she had proof that it had really happened & that’s exactly what she got – PROOF that no one could deny!

When she isn’t writing books; screenplays; Social Media & Blog posts (Whatif.blog); politically satiric Memes for her online series “Camp Meme-A-Day” (Facebook.com/CampMemeADay); she’s creating Greeting Cards for every imaginable occasion.

Brooke is the creator, writer & designer of CardBard Greetings , sold online in The Card Outlet (zazzle.com/thecardoutlet). CardBard Greetings have been called “works of art as well as works of the heart” and run the gamut from heartwarming to hilarious, and from tender to twisted (in some cases, severely twisted).

A Breast Cancer Warrior, Jones donates a portion of everything she sells (including her CardBard Greeting Cards, and copies of her new book, to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. For more about this admittedly 'twisted' woman, visit her website:

Why Are There Monkeys? (and other questions for God) by Brooke Jones is simply a brilliant book. Brooke Jones has interwoven the wisdom of life into her story of having a conversation with God while she was at Heaven's front door after she died. Being knowledgeable on many topics, Brooke asked God many questions, including those on fate, responsibility, faith, choice, and prayer. To bring the subject into focus, at the beginning of each chapter, Brooke writes a mini-introduction to the topic covered in that chapter. Brooke has also successfully used light-hearted comical narration to present deep and serious questions about life. I couldn't stop laughing when I read the amusing exchanges between Brooke and God.

If we had a chance to meet God, what questions would we ask? Would they be “What does God look like?”, “Why is there so much evil in the world?” and “What is the purpose of life?” In Why Are There Monkeys?, Brooke has asked all these questions on our behalf and many more. In fact, there are also lengthy discussions on Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, the creation story of Adam and Eve, and the Bible. The answers from God are revelations. I was absolutely absorbed by the chapter “Is That Your Final Question?” Indeed, what was the final question Brooke Jones asked God? This book is well written and an easy read – I finished it in one sitting. Yes, Why Are There Monkeys? is a highly recommended read which is both entertaining and educational.

This near-death experience memoir is unlike any other one, as it is full of laughs and spiritual insights. It illustrates how each of us will bring our individual personalities with us to the other side. While this professional interviewer was physically dead for several minutes, her spirit continued to live. She met God and presented Him with an array of questions and comments within the context of her great sense of humor. Surprisingly, He often responded with belly laughs and humor. And He also shared profound truths with her. Topics discussed between the two include such subjects as evolution vs. creation; a variety of religions; miracles; sins; the devil. Author Brooke Jones shares this memorable event in Why Are There Monkeys? (and other questions for God).

This book is a true pageturner from the first page to the last. Brooke shares her personal history of being a “closet agnostic,” and living a carefree, drug-using lifestyle. Her style of writing is both sharp-witted and heartfelt. The blend of humor with sacred teachings is unique among many near-death experience stories. Additionally, there are two other features unlike other NDE reports - her last question to God, and His answer still lives with her; she asked for proof this event really occurred and she received it one day. In the memoir, Why Are There Monkeys? (and other questions for God), author Brooke Jones shares her unforgettable experience. Her spiritual awakening will affect everyone who reads and contemplates the meaningful messages in this book.

Why Are There Monkeys? (And Other Questions for God) by Brooke Jones is a hoot and a half with a powerful and inspiring message. Ms. Jones says that in 1975, during a drug overdose, she died and for eight minutes found herself in a warm tunnel of light asking questions to, yes, God. Her first question is if she can ask questions. God, whom she describes as “sweet, gentle and funny,” says yes, and off the book goes, a chapter for each question and its offshoots. Is it creation or evolution? Was Eden on earth? Why do men and women speak different languages? Why is there evil? Which religion is correct? What is faith? What is the soul? Is reincarnation possible? Should the Bible be read literally? Is everything predetermined? What is sin? Does He know everything we do? Does Satan exist? What is death? Is birth control a sin?

Finally, besides wanting to know the words to “Louie, Louie,” she asks God if there’s any chance she could go back and live a better life? Can she have a second chance? All this in eight minutes? you ask. The questions are ones most of us have asked one time or another. The key to Why Are There Monkeys? by Brooke Jones is that the author couches her queries in this comedic atmosphere in which there are chuckles all over the place due to Jones’ constant self-effacement and to God’s quiet, patient and enigmatic answers. Ms. Jones’s final question is the best and most inspiring, but I will leave that one for the reader to discover. I say, read Why There Are Monkeys? by Brooke Jones and pass it on.
