A wedding planner is found upended in the bride's cake, and it seems as if someone may have a grudge against those who prepare the marriage ceremony in the entertaining sleuth mystery novel, Weddings Can Be Murder (The Painted Lady Inn Mysteries) by MK Scott. Donna Tollhouse is the owner and proprietor of the Painted Lady Inn, located in a small North Carolina coastal town. Since Donna opened her inn, she has had the bad luck of having murder victims spontaneously using her property for their untimely deaths. However, a little good has come along with the bad. Donna has discovered she is good at solving mysteries and likes working with Mark, the city's homicide detective.
After a murderous Caribbean cruise, Donna and Mark are going to bite the bullet and tie the knot. Donna wants a simple wedding, but her mother, Cecilia, and sister-in-law, Maria, have different ideas and want to hire a wedding planner. However, things go awry when the area's wedding planners are dying in bizarre accidents. Not only that, Donna's inn is being invaded by rebel soldiers, runaway senior citizens, and elevator contractors that are tearing holes in her wall and sleeping in her yard. Donna is having trouble finding time to investigate the murder, much less plan a wedding. With the festivities coordinators dropping like flies, can Donna have the wedding of her dreams and still catch a killer?
Weddings Can Be Murder (The Painted Lady Inn Mysteries) by MK Scott is a charming sleuth mystery novel. It has delightful characters who are quirky, endearing and engaging. The plot has just enough mystery and crisis to captivate the reader and hold their interest until the smashing finale. The reader is kept guessing all the way to the unmasking of the culprit. Everyone who loves a cozy mystery with a determined and stubborn female amateur sleuth will adore this delightful book and series. This is the seventh novel in the series, and it does all right as a standalone, but it makes the story more entertaining and fun if you have read all of Donna's adventures. That way you know and understand the dynamics between her and her friends and family.
