Valkomert the White of the Shadow Mountains is a work of fiction in the fantasy, action, and adventure subgenres and the opening novel in the Land of Paron series penned by author L. Denton Kennett. It is best suited to the general adult reading audience. We find ourselves in a land where ancient dragons, sorcery, and epic quests unfold. The narrative follows the majestic Valkomert, an ageless dragon with a history as long as time itself. After a lengthy time apart from the world he thought he knew, the dragon encounters a world on the precipice of a new war. As Valkomert becomes a central figure in this tense unfolding saga, enemies old and new arise with plans that could change Paron forever.
Author L. Denton Kennett presents a meticulously crafted fantasy world for his readers with heaps of imagination and depth. Kennett's storytelling skill brings Paron to life with atmospheric touches and multisensory descriptions; from the mysterious Shadow Mountains to the turbulent Dragon Goblin Wars, you feel as though you’re there interacting with the scenery rather than simply watching the tale unfold. The narrative weaves together elements of classic fantasy with plenty of nostalgic nods to the greats, but it’s also a streamlined modern approach that offers readers a fresh look at the style. There’s a sense of being in safe hands with the confident narration and Kennett's ability to transport readers to otherworldly landscapes and entangle them in the grandeur of Paron's rich tapestry. It also leaves tons of time to reflect on the emotional journey of the characters and Valkomert’s wise perspective. Overall, I would highly recommend Valkomert the White of the Shadow Mountains for fans of in-depth, truly immersive fantasy fiction everywhere, and L. Denton Kennett in general as an accomplished author whom new fantasy fans will be delighted to discover.
