When Salvator Slocum gets a message from his boss requesting to see him immediately, he expects to get chewed out for once again managing to show up late at the office. What he is not expecting from Burt Leathers is to be made the new acting head of the company. With no senior management experience, nothing about the decision makes sense, but he is determined to give his new position his best shot. He does not know that becoming the new head of True North comes with liabilities, and the biggest is an unhappy customer promising payback for a raw deal. The moment of reckoning is fast approaching for Sal and Burt in True North by Randall DeVallance.
A businessman's worst nightmare comes to life in True North by Randall DeVallance. His storyline combines elements of comedy and drama evenly to create an intriguing novel. DeVallance does an incredible job of translating his impression of office drama with the help of interesting conversations that sound realistic while retaining the comedic undertone one would expect from staff when dealing with an inexperienced superior. I am impressed with how DeVallance connects the dots between his characters as he builds up their origin stories. He leaves a subtle clue in each character’s past that only an intuitive reader would catch, creating the perfect avenue to immerse the reader in this story. DeVallance deserves plaudits for creating a thought-provoking novel out of a simple plot.
