Touchdown Tony Crowne is about to have a weekend he'll long remember. Not only will he be playing as backup quarterback in the Pee Wee football match with his team, the Dersee Bobcats, against their most serious rival, the Lions, but Tony will help solve the disappearance of the head cheerleader Ash. Toss in a new friend named Judd, who adds much comedic relief, and you have a great game plan for action.

Football players will particularly enjoy the play-by-play descriptions in Peter Guy George's Touchdown Tony Crowne and the Mystery of the Missing Cheerleader. You quickly learn the sport is Tony's passion, but his long term goal is to be a detective. Being observant during the game leads to success on the field, but it is also a skill that allows Tony to intercept clues leading to the missing girl. What possible reason could anyone have to kidnap Ash and where could she be? With the help of Judd and a dog named Curly, can Tony thwart the villains and win the big game?

Diverse characters, with fun names like Miss Dingledine, populate the book and Tony quickly learns who are friends or foes. Other than Dersee being a city by a lake, it could be Anytown USA with the small town feel and community support. I recommend this book to every action and adventure-loving young reader. The vocabulary, dialog, and action are all suitable for any age group. Touchdown Tony Crowne and the Mystery of the Missing Cheerleader is a fun mystery with a positive message and morals.
