Tin Baths, Tallymen & Time Travel is the autobiography of Marianne Green. Historical happenings of the 20th century are brought to life with the nostalgic benefit of decades of time separating then and now. From the intricacies of the world of horse racing to chatting with the stars of the '60s and '70s, this girl has had one heck of a life so far!
My first thought while reading this was, "What a peculiar book!" It was peculiar in a good way though. It's kind and thoughtful, filled with a vibrancy of life that makes you glad to be part of humankind. Marianne's grandmother is as much of a character as she is, and getting to know these two ladies, as well as a scattered few others, was a fun, quirky experience that made for an entertaining afternoon. You feel deeply and personally connected to the author as you learn more and more about her everyday life and what she has experienced over the course of several decades.
The writing style was straightforward and stuck closely to facts, then surrounded said facts with memories and opinions about them. Seeing history play out through Marianne Green's eyes was as entertaining as any history class could be. Tin Baths, Tallymen & Time Travel is definitely an easy read to keep you entertained during these last lazy days of summer. Bring it with you on your Labor Day vacation and immerse yourself in some history and discover a past that's fun and informative.
