In Through the Eyes of Denial, twin brothers Richard and Robert Aberg relive the painful memories of abuse, pretense, and denial endured during their childhood and teenage years while they survived in a family controlled by intimidation, torture, stalking, and abuse. With amazing candor and courage, Richard and Robert Aberg tell their story in a natural Iowan narrative, and include passages in the voices of their mother and older sister to add different and supporting points of view of the hardships they suffered as they learned to live “Through the Eyes of Denial.”
The true story unfolds at a rapid pace with shockingly real experiences of fear and terror. I found Through the Eyes of Denial heartbreakingly tragic; the strength and courage of the victims engaged my soul and my heart - in fact, I found it so compelling that I could not stop reading until I reached the end. Richard and Robert Aberg’s message in Through the Eyes of Denial is powerful and meaningful, and sadly is something with which many children and spouses can identify. The writing is fluid, well organized, and flows quickly. It is definitely a page turner. The story is told so well I give Richard and Robert Aberg’s Through the Eyes of Denial a five star rating.
