Three Stand Alone: The ‘Jim Wilson’ Thriller Anthology by Nigel Seed is a collection of all 7 Jim Wilson novels in one volume. Major Jim Wilson is very good at finding trouble and then finding a solution to the problems. Helping him along the way are his two friends Geordie and Ivan, two equally charismatic and energetic fellows who are not afraid of anything. They did their training at the Royal Engineers and they are using their knowledge for the betterment of the world. From finding two German submarines from World War 2 to locating some hidden gold, saving people, stopping weapons from getting into the hands of dangerous people and even working for a Chinese gang, Jim and his two companions are always prepped for some dangerous adventures. Facing the enemy is never easy, but these three men are ready to find the answers and get the best solution before it is too late.
This anthology was brilliant. I loved the dynamics between Jim, Ivan, and Geordie; they had a system and they knew how it worked. The author is great at building tension, making it boil and then letting it simmer just long enough to have the reader anticipate the end. Of all the 7 novels, I enjoyed 160 Degrees East, Twelve Lives and Golden Eights the most. However, the most amazing fact about this collection was in the character development. Jim from the first novel compared to Jim of the last one is very different and very impressive. This is an adventurous series, one that gives a lot more to the reader than simple enjoyment. A real entertainer!
