The Wisdom of Solomon, by Wanda E. Brunstetter, like most of her books takes place in an Amish community. Solomon Lapp and his sister, Sara, live in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This delightful book is an anthology of twelve short stories, sure to please children 5-8 years of age. Each story begins with a scripture from Proverbs. The moral of the stories are easy to discern. Asking God before speaking, sharing, Jesus watches over you when you are sleeping, and having a happy heart are just a few of the lessons found in this book.
Illustrator Phil A. Smous uses bold colors to catch the eye of reader. Each illustration compliments the story. The glossary in the back of the book defines Amish words that may be unfamiliar. My copy of The Wisdom of Solomon is a hardback book, well-bound, and should hold up under repeated handling by children. Smudges and smears from little hands are easily washed off the cover. I’ve always enjoyed Wanda Brunstetter’s books, and this one did not disappoint me. I shared it with one of my grandsons. He was fascinated with the story and giggled at many of the adventures of Solomon, Sara, and their friends.
