Arizona is the owner of a restaurant and a part-time sleuth. Unfortunately for her, the new police chief is not interested in her help when a mean and cantankerous out-of-town woman is murdered as she is there helping to plan her son’s wedding. Arizona, having found the body floating in the river, takes an immediate interest in finding the killer. She has a long list of suspects and she is working her way down the list, eliminating and adding people. Eventually, Keith Wesley, the police chief, has no choice but to listen to Arizona and follow up on her leads. When Arizona finds herself in danger, her very intelligent dog and Keith are always there to save her. Arizona and Keith slowly work together and the two form a friendly relationship that may lead to more in the future.
The Wedding Cake Murder: An Arizona Summers Mystery, Vol 1 is a sweet, lovable, cozy mystery. Arizona (aka Ary) is impossible not to like from page one to the very last word. We feel her pain and joy as she deals with her mother, Emma, who will make you laugh and make you say poor Arizona; her aunt and best friend Sandy who tries but doesn’t always succeed in keeping the peace; and the cast of friends who help Arizona solve the latest mystery in her town. I really enjoyed The Wedding Cake Murder. It is entertaining, believable, with a great plot and wonderful characters. I am anxiously awaiting Vol 2 to see what trouble Arizona will get in next. I have added Susan Keene to my list of favorite authors and I believe you will do the same after reading Susan Keene's The Wedding Cake Murder.
