The Wanderer's Last Journey: The Orfeo Saga Book 4 is another instalment in Murray Lee Eiland Jr’s interesting historical fiction saga. After helping defeat the Therans, Orfeo and Clarice visit the island of Malta where they are graciously received by the king. While strolling on the beach with Clarice, Orfeo is kidnapped by strange men. He is subsequently brought to the New World where he is hailed as the god Quetzalcoatl. Clarice is aided by good friends, Daryush and Semira, and they cross the unknown seas to rescue Orfeo. They are joined by Orfeo’s mentor, Zurga, the wanderer. Caught in the war between the Nastases and the Ixtlans, they try to escape but more troubles await them at home too.
The Wanderer's Last Journey: The Orfeo Saga Book 4 slightly mixes the Old and the New World in a continuing saga that revolves around the brave warrior Orfeo. The story is fast paced and filled with adventure. At the same time, it is also quite informative. This was a period when people believed the world was flat and new discoveries were being made. It gives us a glimpse of life in ancient Egypt, Greece, and Mexico. Above all, The Wanderer's Last Journey is a lesson in love, friendship, and loyalty. It portrays a world where greed, jealousy, and lust for power always threaten communities, but fortunately there is always enough good that triumphs in the end. That is, until the next conflict arises. Interestingly enough, all the women in this story are strong and powerful. Murray Lee Eiland Jr is certainly a master storyteller and I look forward to his next novel!
