Jack. E. Davis was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, where he was educated in the Detroit public school system and at the National Institute of Technology. From an early age he loved to read, unlike most people his favorite genre changes often (although at the moment it happens to be suspense). He currently works in transportation and resides in Davison, Michigan with his husband Scott, their two dogs, and one certifiable cat named Grace.

In Jack E. Davis’s intriguing murder mystery, The Voicemail, a second-grade English teacher sets out to uncover the mystery surrounding a series of killings in her small town. Samantha Harris receives a shocking voicemail from a murder victim just before her death. Later, the body of a social media star is found, and Samantha immediately recognizes the victim. However, darkness looms over the small town of St. Lux as the serial killer behind the murders remains unidentified. Things worsen for Samantha when she discovers a mysterious man has consistently tried to break into her house. Between caring for her friends and trying to find the killer, Samantha feels drained. Her investigation leads her down multiple paths as the list of suspects grows longer. Still, she remains determined to solve the mysterious murders.
The Voicemail by Jack E. Davis includes fascinating characters, including a group of older eccentric women who know everything happening in the town. Samantha’s friends are three-dimensional with their own stories and struggles. Other captivating mysteries emerge following the initial murder case, resulting in various intriguing sub-plots. The constant tension throughout the plot as Samantha conducts the investigation makes it absorbing. I liked that the plot is led by a determined heroine who refuses to be intimidated by the anonymous threats she receives. It is also a hopeful tale as one of Samantha’s dreams is fulfilled through a chance encounter with an elusive boy trying to solve a mystery. The end is surprising and riveting. Fans will love the brave main character in this unpredictable murder mystery with engaging characters and sub-plots.
