I grew up in northern England, completing my education at London University, before embarking on a teaching career, including assignments in the UK, Finland and Switzerland. I use the knowledge I gained of European countries and languages as authentic background for my successful series of Inspector George Mason mystery novels.
In 2000, I moved permanently to New Hampshire with my Tulsa-born wife Catharine,also a teacher. My other interest are music, travel and year-round outdoor pursuits.

J.D. Mallinson has written a European sleuth novel to entertain readers in all countries. In "The Swiss Connection", the author has Inspector George Mason of Scotland Yard pulled away from a vacation with his wife to attend to a mystery involving a German doctor who has been discovered with his neck broken on a hiking trail. Mason asks for assistance in the way of a newbie to the force, detective Sergeant Alison Aubrey. Together, the two sleuths examine leads in Switzerland and Germany and their clues lead them to a clinic in England where a seemingly routine medical clinic harbors ugly secrets.
Mallinson has such an easy manner of presenting clues to the reader that one feels as if he or she is simply in a conversation with the author. Mason is such a loveable, laid-back character that the reader wonders if he'll ever get to the bottom of the mystery. And then, the addition of the young female detective adds just a little bit of spice to the story. The highlight of the book for this reader was the ongoing description of the British countryside. The author gives us all a treat in his adventures in the various pubs where he and his cohort find traditional and exotic foods as well as various pints to keep the spirit going. It is almost as if the clues just slip in and all of a sudden, the mystery is solved. In the day of the fast-paced, aggressive mystery novel, Mallinson has given us a refreshing break in the presentation of adventure.
