The Swirling Red Mist: A Tale of Murder by Geree McDermott is a psychological thriller. Bonnie and Riki are about to graduate and both have opened a new business in the Cedros Avenue Design District. But Riki is being stalked. Someone has been in her apartment, notes are being left, and the same figure is seen wherever she is. Nancy Thomason has moved into the same district to start her own new career. No-one seems to realize that she has a mental illness, one that is rapidly escalating. The swirling red mist is taking over her life, leading her to stalk, to kill and to laugh about it afterward. Nobody seems to realize until things go too far.
The Swirling Red Mist: A Tale of Murder by Geree McDermott is a gripping tale of suspense. You know early on who and what but the story is all about following the psychopath as she goes about her “business”. The suspense is built up gradually in an edge of the seat story that has plenty of twists in it, leading to a stunning ending – I wonder whether there is a sequel to this on the way? The characters are developed throughout the story, easy to identify with and in a way that you can almost walk beside them, live the story as they do. It is clear that proper research has been done on the specific mental illness; it shows through in the way the story is written. I really enjoyed this well-paced story and highly recommend it to fans of suspense tales and thrillers. Great story, very scary.
