The Sky is Not the Limit: Talent is Only the Beginning by Maggie Richardson is a non-fiction biography of Ross Hutchinson, a man who wore a great many different hats through a diverse career. Hutchinson was the rare sort of man who not only dreamed big but lived big. He maneuvered through life under what sounds like a lucky star, but to say so would diminish the hard work, dedication, and journey required for him to get there. From a young age, Hutchinson knew what he wanted to do in life and he wasted very little time in asserting himself in the field of live performance and entertainment. His many talents included singing, dance, gymnastics, military training and sharpshooting, multiple sports including golf, cricket, and football, philanthropy, ministry, and a whole host of other accomplishments.
It is often said of those who have lived a full life that they should write a book about it. Luckily for Ross Hutchinson, author Maggie Richardson compiled his story on his behalf in The Sky is Not the Limit. While the biography itself is relatively short, it covers so much that it can be a little overwhelming. I particularly enjoyed the parts that focused on Hutchinson's work with several notable stars in television and theater, and the fact that he suffered from debilitating asthma as a child makes his singing and sporting successes intriguing. From a literary standpoint, the writing is simple and straightforward, with a little more substance than style, but I suspect that adding a flourish to the prose would make a reader question the book's authenticity and source. I believe Richardson's biography of Ross Hutchinson will be treasured by his family and those who knew him for generations to come.
