The Secret Valley by Ryan Baxter begins in the Kingdom of Nepal where we meet our hero, Captain Raj. Raj is summoned by his Commander who sends him on a mission to a monastery in Sing Gompa near the Himalayas. His orders are to pick up an object and return it to his Commander. Additionally, he is to follow a sealed order, to be opened in Sing Gompa. Raj reaches the monastery and meets the Abbot who hands him a map revealing the location of a sacred Buddhist relic. When Raj reads his order, he is unable to follow it. Thus begins Captain Raj’s adventure, which involves endless attempts on his life, a meeting with old friends, and a chance meeting with Sira, who is in a fight for her life. Raj never thought that he would have another chance at love, and he is ready to risk it all to make a new life with Sira.
The Secret Valley by Ryan Baxter is a captivating story set in ancient Nepal, Tibet, India, and China. The novel combines all the essentials of a thriller. I enjoyed the suspense, twists and turns, palace intrigue, and mystical aspects immensely. Additionally, the visually descriptive language illustrating Raj’s and Sira’s journeys is fascinating. The book is educative, offering insights into Buddhism and life in ancient times. Baxter explores various themes in the plot, the main ones being loyalty, religion, love, and good versus evil. The plot is fantastic and the characters are well-developed. This story will remain with me for a long time.
