The Scouts of St. Michael: Operation Archangel by Dan Morales is set in the summer of 1940. Six orphaned boys who live at St. Michael’s Home for Boys are banned from the local BBS or British Boy Scouts. Wanting desperately to be Boy Scouts, they start their own troop and call themselves The Scouts of St. Michael. When German bombers hit the town hard, everyone is evacuated into St. Michael’s basements. While heading to the shelter, the scouts notice that the gunning nest and bunker on a nearby hill are deserted. Wondering why, they head for the bunker and find that, indeed, no one is there. Using the base’s radio, they call the local command who tells them to help, so they attempt to use an anti-aircraft gun. In the process, they manage to shoot down a German Stuka dive bomber piloted by one of Germany’s top pilots.
The Scouts of St. Michael: Operation Archangel by Dan Morales is an interesting book set during World War II. The way Dan Morales writes is a different style than most authors, which makes his book fun to read. He writes with clarity and care, making his book a ton more interesting to read than some books. This excellent story contains an action packed adventure that I would recommend for teenage readers who enjoy historical fiction. Totally worth five stars. The Scouts of St. Michael: Operation Archangel is only the first book of the series with at least one more coming. Great book, I loved it. The cliffhanger at the end was excellent!
