D. Ann Hall is a native of the bonnie and often cloud and gloom covered land of Scotland. Living minutes away from the inspiration for Dracula's castle and hypnotised by Hammer Horror films as a child, she developed an interest in the Paranormal (and secretly wanted to grow up to be a vampire.)
She's lived in a haunted house, worked in a haunted building and communed with ghosts. A passion for history, especially ancient Egypt led her to combine interests and The Rising : Awakening was born.
When not writing, she'll be: at her day job, relaxing with family or watching films but always drinking an absurd amount of tea.

The Rising: Awakening by D. Ann Hall is 'A Gothic Paranormal Horror' story. Samuel Clayton is an Egyptologist and when he receives his inheritance – a gold talisman with strange markings – he needs to work out what they mean and trace the origin of the artifact. Why does touching it bring back memories from his past? Plagued by nightmares, he pushes forward to his destiny but finds himself face-to-face with Kesha, a vampire with strong ties to his past. The threat of the Rising has pulled her from her Scottish sanctuary and now she has a job to do – stop the Rising and eliminate who started it. Kesha and Samuel team up to discover an ancient secret that has the power to change the world. Can they stop the Rising and keep the status quo intact?
The Rising by D. Ann Hall is a mixture of genres and is quite violent in places. There is some strong language but nothing out of keeping with the narrative. This is a well-written book. The story flows smoothly and the characters are well-developed – you get to know them and understand where they come from. It’s a long and rather involved plot and requires your full attention or you’ll lose track. It begins with our main protagonist as a child, giving us some helpful background, and then progresses through his journey to discover the secrets. There’s plenty of family drama, and lots of twists and turns, providing us with a combination of the paranormal and sci-fi all rolled into one. An unusual tale, the action takes place across Egypt and at the British Museum, before coming to a natural conclusion. Recommended for those who enjoy paranormal stories and want something different to read.
