The Rise of Yezurkstal: Evorath, Book 2 is a work of fiction in the epic fantasy, adventure, and action subgenres, and forms the second novel in the Evorath series after The Birth Of Death. Penned by author Joseph P Macolino, the work is best suited to the mature adult audience as it contains some scenes of graphic violence As this sweeping fantasy series continues to expand its dangerous world of magic and mayhem, we are introduced to the quest of young Zelag. Surviving a dangerous attack leaves Zelag alone in the world, and so he bands together with the heroes of Evorath to drive back another assault from the wicked Yezurkstal.
Author Joseph P Macolino has crafted a second-in-series that really turns up the heat in this thrilling fantasy series and takes readers to whole new levels of danger through the eyes of our inexperienced protagonist Zelag. I enjoyed this fish-out-of-water aspect a lot, and it was enriching to see an ordinary figure grow into a hero as a result of the trials and struggles of the first novel, although a lot of the personal stories of the characters can also be enjoyed as a standalone work. The overarching plot develops nicely, and the tension rises at a great pace, all set against an atmospheric backdrop where we learn the fascinating lore and in-depth development of Evorath as a whole. Overall, The Rise of Yezurkstal will certainly please fans of deeply-woven high fantasy with plenty of dark twists and emotive characters undergoing intense tests of courage and strength.
