In The Rescued Heart by Madeleine McDonald, the author has written a romance that is delightful and intriguing. The story revolves around life after the death of a partner and what society expects of the remaining partner and how certain people prey on widows or even widowers. The main characters are Ellen, Neill, who is Ellen’s late husband; Philip, a family friend who is not very well-liked, and Christian, an artist. The children are Ryan and Chloe, Rudi, and Felix, just a few of the wonderful characters that appear in the plot. What catches the reader’s attention is that the story takes place overseas and then returns to Ellen’s home country and hometown.
The Rescued Heart by Madeleine McDonald takes the reader on a wonderful journey of discovery about Ellen, her children, her friends, and her acquaintances and what influences they have on her life. The author has the reader’s attention from the first chapter to the last with the most unusual and unexpected twist in the tale. It makes for a delightful read on a winter's day before an open fire with a cup of cocoa, or even as a holiday read. Thank you for a wonderful story, Madeleine. I really enjoyed it. It is a most interesting book that Young Adults would enjoy reading as well.
