Nimbility by Aaron T. Knight is a fast-paced fantasy novel that follows Myles Metcalf, a fugitive on the run in Washington, D.C., as he attempts to outwit the IRS and avoid prison. Framed as a crook and tax evader, Myles is determined to clear his name and expose the powerful forces behind his downfall. With the help of three eccentric allies, he navigates a perilous mission to access hidden files from a corrupt empire. To survive and achieve his goal, Myles will need every ounce of cleverness and agility, or 'nimbility', he can muster. The concept of 'nimbility' serves as both a clever plot device and a thematic thread that ties the story together in unexpected ways.
Author Aaron T. Knight crafts an inventive and engaging story that perfectly balances suspense with well-timed moments of humor. The confidence and natural ease of his writing style immediately engage you and make the concepts of the story accessible. His creative approach to character development shines through in the dynamic between Myles and his three quirky allies, whose distinct personalities offer a lot of entertainment value to every scene. The dialogue between them was also bright and vividly presented, characterizing them immediately and giving us a lot between the lines. I was constantly impressed by how Knight maintained the story's momentum while building a rich and believable world within modern-day Washington, D.C. Knight managed to make even the most outlandish scenarios feel plausible through his attention to detail and strong character motivations, creating a story that kept me guessing and grinning from start to finish. Overall, Nimbility is a must-read for anyone who enjoys clever fantasy with a healthy dose of wit and heart, and I'd certainly recommend it.
