The Remnants of Pryr by Tobias Robbins is an exciting story about history, power, and survival in a world on the edge of disaster. It follows Isten, an archivist who spends his days trying to piece together the past of Pryr—a place where both science and magic exist, but countries still can’t seem to get along. Things get even more complicated when a long-lost founder returns with a warning that the world might not have much time left. Now, the people of Pryr have to figure out whether they can put aside their differences or let their rivalries pull them apart. Instead of telling the story in a straightforward way, Robbins uses different kinds of documents to paint a picture of Pryr’s past and present. This approach makes the world rich and layered, full of gods, spies, and scholars whose lives cross in surprising ways.

Tobias Robbins has done something really impressive with this book, and I was hooked from the very first page. He blends science and magic so smoothly that it never feels out of place, making Pryr feel like a real, lived-in world. The way he tells the story—through different documents and accounts—keeps things interesting and makes you pay attention to the little details. I also loved how the characters, especially Isten and the mysterious founder, had such distinct voices that made them feel real. One of the things that stuck with me was how Robbins tackles ideas like faith, power, and cultural clashes. Even though Pryr is a fictional place, a lot of what happens there feels surprisingly relevant to our own world. The mix of personal struggles and larger political conflicts makes for a story that feels both big and personal at the same time. Overall, The Remnants of Pryr is a recommended read that’s both thought-provoking and entertaining, perfect for anyone who loves stories that make you think while keeping you on the edge of your seat.
