The Raptors of Redwood (The Earth-Watchers) by Lester Ferguson tells readers about the adventures of Warrick, a photographer, birdwatcher, artist, husband, and father. Welcome to Redwood where the story is set amid the giant trees, birds, and forests. The story reveals the author's love for nature and birds and his great passion for photography. The book is ideal for children in many ways. It speaks to them about nature, the beauty of living in natural surroundings, and birds. The book takes you on an educational trip. Children learn the names of different bird species, their characteristics, and their habits.

The bird watching adventures in the book are exciting. The introduction to all the birds is done by the author in a playful manner, along with the story. Many times we see birds around us and often wonder about their names and species. The book describes the beauty of nature in a subtle way and the beautiful sights and sounds that are given to us by the universe. The backdrop of the book is the town of Redwood, so named because of its Redwood trees. The book covers the seasons in the forests of that small town where giant trees dot the skyline instead of skyscrapers.

The book stimulates your aesthetic senses. It is appealing to read and the illustrations are a delight to look at it. On the whole, the book is vibrant and lively. The educational theme makes it a must-have book in school and children's libraries.
