The Quantum Contingent by Gregory R Simpson follows the story of a brother and sister spy duo as they work hard to protect the world from imminent doom. Set in 2028, Jack and Sarah are siblings working as spies with Quotient. The establishment takes help from quantum computing to save the day. However, they are not the only ones using quantum computing to their advantage. A rogue group called The Quantum Contingent has also mastered quantum computing and is hoping to attain the impossible - immortality. They want to achieve this goal, even if it means holding governments all over the world hostage until they get what they want. It is Jack and Sarah’s job to find out who their founder is and stop The Quantum Contingent before it is too late. But can they?

It has been a long time since I read a good spy novel, so it was easy for me to pick up The Quantum Contingent. I love a spy thriller with over-the-top, futuristic technologies and gadgets, and author Gregory R Simpson didn’t disappoint. I was not aware of quantum computing and what it is capable of, but this novel has been a great educational experience for me. I loved how the story does not get technical but uses technology to further develop the plot. Jack and Sarah are the perfect partners for this story. They worked together incredibly well, they understand each other, and their synergy is on point. The descriptions are fun, the imagery is vivid, and the dialogues are exciting. The story progresses at a steady pace, develops perfectly, and lets the mystery behind the Quantum Contingent and their leader simmer before readers learn the truth. I loved it and highly recommend it!

The Quantum Contingent is a work of fiction in the thriller, technological and espionage subgenres. It is intended for the general reading audience and was penned by author Gregory R Simpson. As the title suggests, the work explores the possibilities of quantum computing alongside many other familiar technologies in today’s world, under the devious premise of a select group of figures who wish to achieve immortality and shape the face of humanity’s future. It’s up to spy sibling duo, Jack and Sarah, to use their wits to uncover the truth behind these technologies, and the sinister organization that will stop at nothing to achieve dominance.

Spy novels generally fall into two categories: either being overly detailed and bogged down by information or moving so fast that a reader never gets much context or emotional development from the characters, but author Gregory R Simpson walks this tightrope well to deliver a concise and pacy spy story that also leaves room to breathe. I enjoyed the development of Jack and Sarah, who transform under the trials of the plot from largely generic opening characters into heartfelt people whom you can really root for and admire their unique talents. The incorporation of so much familiar-yet-complex tech into the tale was also a big plus for its sense of realism, and will certainly attract fans of speculative fiction. I also found the playlist to be a really wonderful touch for the atmosphere of the piece. If you’re seeking a strong conceptual plot filled with exciting twists and turns, look no further than The Quantum Contingent for your next thriller read.

The Quantum Contingent is the latest science fiction thriller from Gregory R Simpson. Set in the not too distant future, the book tells an exciting tale of espionage set in the world of high technology. The secrets of quantum computing have finally been cracked and the secret society responsible is poised to use it to tailor society to their specifications in a bid for global control. These villains are a suitably menacing threat for an espionage thriller of this nature, pushing the boundaries of what we know is currently possible to create an exciting antagonist for an intriguing world.

Opposing The Quantum Contingent themselves are Jack and Sarah, a brother and sister spy team whose employers also have access to quantum technology. There’s a fascinating exploration of technological ideology on display as the two sides trade blows over the possible uses of the emergent technology in a way that lets Gregory R Simpson showcase the debate over whether such developments will harm or help humanity in the long run. Much of the technology that is appearing today is expanded upon and considered over the course of this globe-trotting adventure through the future, and I was impressed by the way ideas were discussed and explored in a way that felt natural to the story and characters. The Quantum Contingent is excellent science fiction, intelligently weaving important ideas into a compelling narrative that lays bare the future we could be looking at.
