The Price of Freedom (The Price of Trilogy, Book 3) by Michael C. Bland throws readers into a dystopian 2047 where the rebellion has been crushed, and the Agency is back in full control. Dray Quintero, once a leader in the fight for freedom, is wasting away in a maximum-security prison, haunted by his failures and the uncertainty of what happened to his daughter, Raven. When a sudden prison riot gives him a chance to escape, he takes it—despite knowing the odds are stacked against him. But the world outside isn’t the same. Nowhere is safe, and the few allies he has left are either hiding underground or have been forced to work with the enemy. The Agency’s grip on society has only gotten stronger, using advanced surveillance and brutal force to keep everyone in line. Dray is left with a choice: disappear and save himself, or take one last shot at fighting back, even if it means almost certain death. With resistance cells barely holding on and resources running dry, the price of freedom has never been higher in this high-stakes conclusion to the trilogy.

Michael C. Bland delivers a fast-paced, action-packed sci-fi thriller that still makes time for real character depth. Dray’s internal struggle—deciding between survival and standing by his ideals—adds emotional weight to the non-stop chases and battles. The worldbuilding is especially strong, showing how authoritarian regimes don’t just stay the same, they evolve and adapt, making the dystopian future feel eerily possible instead of over-the-top evil. One thing that stood out to me was how Bland explores resilience and sacrifice through different perspectives, showing that resistance isn’t always black and white. The tech also feels like a natural extension of what we already see in surveillance today, which makes the stakes feel even more real. But at its core, this story isn’t just about politics or technology—it’s about human connection, especially the father-daughter bond that drives so much of Dray’s decisions. Overall, The Price of Freedom is a gripping and explosive finale that delivers both action and deeper meaning, and one that I'd highly recommend.
