The Poetry Project: Genesis is a collection of narrative poems by Angela Williams. The poems are derived from the chapters of the Book of Genesis. From creation to the children of Israel in Egypt, the author discusses God’s faithfulness, unconditional love, and favor upon His children. Join Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, Abraham on his journey to becoming the father of all nations, and Joseph as he reunites with his family. Get to draw life-changing lessons from their lives and experiences. The author also talks about the story of redemption and the promised coming of the Messiah, Jesus. I enjoyed reading The Poetry Project: Genesis because it is not your typical poetry book. It is unique and makes you view the stories in Genesis from a more modern perspective. Angela Williams uses terms like baby mama drama, one-night stand, and many more, which add humor to the stories and make it easy for readers to resonate with these biblical figures. Her combined use of rhymes, commentary, and historical knowledge showcased her creativity, hard work, and passion. The author narrates the less visited stories like Abram and Sarai in Egypt, Melchizedek, king of Salem, and the continuation of Ishmael's and Esau’s stories. The book has consistent themes of sibling rivalry and complicated family dynamics. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves poems and Bible stories. I hope to read more from this author because this was fun to read, and I know Genesis is just the beginning. More is yet to come.
