In The Mystery of the Lost Map by Jim Rhoden and Mickey Goodman, two young cowboys get a lucky break at school and start their weekend camping plans early. Cowboy Small and Cowboy Little find that their camping area is not the same as they left it last time. While they get things back to normal, the young boys find saddlebags full of some very interesting items along with a bunch of gold coins and a strange map. With the help of their family, Cowboy Small and Cowboy Little try to find out where the saddlebags and their contents came from. Can they find the real owner of the saddlebags? What does the map mean? Who do all those gold coins belong to? Did Sourpuss and his Whiskey Still Gang steal the saddlebags? How much trouble are the bandits going to make for the cowboys?
The Mystery of the Lost Map by Jim Rhoden and Mickey Goodman is a wonderful story full of fun and adventure. The plot takes the reader on a treasure hunt on horseback as the cowboys try to find out where the saddlebags and the gold came from and where the mysterious map leads to without getting caught in the crosshairs of the Whiskey Still Gang. The characters are fun and unique and fit in well with the era in which the story takes place. I recommend The Mystery of the Lost Map to anyone who has children of reading age that love a grand adventure full of cowboys, Indians, outlaws and, of course, treasure hunting.
