The Muse by Noemi Capote is a fantasy/coming-of-age story of a young woman who realizes that she needs to be the hero for herself. Karla Lozano is just an ordinary girl who is trying to live her life the way she wants. She wants to spend time with her friends, get her degree and maybe do something with her life. However, her father has other plans for her; he wants to get her married to a man she can barely stand. But there are worse things in the world at the moment than marrying a man she doesn’t like. She is living in a world where the lines between good and bad are terribly blurred and there isn’t much she can do about it. She cannot change the world, but she can focus on herself and her faith. But when you live in a world where you aren’t even sure if there is someone you can count on, who can you rely on?
This was certainly a novel that gave me a lot to think about - who I am as a person and what it says about me. The story is deep, it is complex and it has layers that you would like to peel away, one after the other. The pace is great, the narrative is smooth and the author has done some hard research work for this novel to share characters such as shamans and witches to bring something authentic to the reader. The author makes everything fascinating with the way she introduces the ideas and concepts in the novel and makes them an integral part of the plot. I really enjoyed the story a lot. This is a wonderful read and it is very entertaining.
