Do you like to travel? How many countries have you visited? Have you taken in the local history and visited some phenomenal historic sites like the Eiffel Tower in Paris? The world is a beautiful place and there are a lot of interesting places to visit like the Taj Mahal in India, the great pyramids of Egypt, and Big Ben in London, England. Each unique historic site has a story to tell. For example, did you know that the Eiffel Tower is held together by 2.5 million screws? And the Leaning Tower of Pisa leaned to the north when it was first built, but it now leans to the south? To top it off, did you know that the length of the cables holding up the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco is enough to circle Earth three times? I have visited a few fabulous sights on my travels, but there are many more I’d like to see and many more interesting facts I’d like to learn. How about you?
Well, here’s a great way to start on your adventure to see the world and some of its many wonders. Samuel John’s book, The Most Famous Landmarks in the World: History and Curiosities Explained for Children and Adults, is part of the educational books for kids series. The author has collected interesting tidbits on quite a few wonders of the world. Each one has an illustration of the sight with bulleted text on the facing page listing some interesting facts from where it is, to when and how it was built, to details like how many screws hold it together. Simply presented, this book is an excellent way to introduce young readers to the wonders of the world. Loved it! Makes me want to travel some more and see these places.
