The Moon Knows Lily by Ednar Jacques, illustrated by Cha Consul, is about a little girl who is curious about the moon. The story starts early in the morning as Lily rides the bus to school with the moon in the sky, smiling at her. It makes Lily happy when the moon says hello to her as she starts her day. The little girl would like to know if the moon is also curious about her. She wonders if the moon knows her favorite color, and the things that make her happy and those that make her sad. She wants to know if the moon knows that watching its glow brings her comfort late at night and in the morning. Most of all, Lily wants to know if the moon loves her too.
The Moon Knows Lily by Ednar Jacques is a delightful children’s picture book that focuses on a special relationship between the moon and a young girl. The story is simple but powerful enough to capture any child’s imagination. The wordplay is amusing and the rhythm is pleasant. Complementing the book perfectly are the beautiful illustrations that capture the mood of the story. The color theme enhances the text and the tone of the story. Like everybody else, Lily wants to be seen, heard, accepted, and loved. This book shows children how to identify their emotions, what each emotion feels like, and that these feelings are okay. This is a perfect bedtime story on a full moon night. Highly recommended!
