The Legend of Chip: The Perilous Journey is a work of fantasy fiction with historical and Christian elements, and was penned by author Stanley Campbell. Written for readers of all ages due to its clean content, this novel follows on from The Legend Begins to form the second book in the series. After discovering the dark forces which have played havoc with his life, Chip’s new adventure sees him fleeing his homeland under false accusations. Taking on a new alias, William Chips sets sail for the British colonies to try to escape the demons which torment him. What results is a harsh lesson as Chip learns that the past isn’t something that’s so easy to run from.
Thematic, atmospheric and deeply emotive, this is a deceptive tale that begins as a simple historical-style adventure novel, but soon develops into a highly meaningful allegory for human nature and psychology. Author Stanley Campbell balances these themes well within an accomplished piece of fiction, one which stands on its own merits for its pithy and realistic dialogue, inventive character development and descriptive, almost cinematic realness in its settings. But when you begin to add the subtle layers of Christian beliefs in conquering darkness and the highly emotional journey that Chip makes during his trials, the narration becomes an even higher level of achievement. Readers of all ages and stages of learning will gain something from this epic journey, and I’d highly recommend The Legend of Chip: The Perilous Journey to all readers who enjoy both adventure and depth in their fiction.
