William D. Burt is the award-winning author of the seven-title Christian allegorical “King of the Trees” series and of “The Lake Lights,” Volume I in his new Creation Seekers series. All eight of Burt’s titles have been awarded five stars by Readers’ Favorite reviewers. Two of his first series titles (out of three submitted) were finalists in the 2014 Readers’ Favorite International Book Award Contest: “The King of the Trees” and “The Golden Wood.”

“The Lake Lights” is William Burt’s first foray into the realm of science fiction. The plot deals with the investigation of an unusual lake phenomenon in Oregon as well as the discovery of a world-changing invention that helps prevent a nuclear disaster.
As an Assistant Professor in the Special Education Department at Western Oregon University, Burt served as a successful grant-writer and program coordinator. He holds a B.S. in English from Lewis and Clark College and an M.S. from Western Oregon University in Deaf Education. Burt has been an RID-certified sign-language interpreter with over forty years’ experience. His interests include reading, foreign languages and mycology. He is married with two grown children and three grandchildren.

The Lake Lights by William D. Burt is a gripping story that combines elements of adventure, sci-fi, and fantasy into a story that will plunge readers into an intriguing world of mystery and conflict. Jonathan Oliver can’t understand the source of the mysterious lights that hover above Oswego Lake and, determined to find out where they come from, he undertakes a mission to track the lights as his home school project. His quest leads him to the abandoned Prosser Mine in Iron Mountain where he discovers ancient secrets. His father, a physicist, goes missing in the Afghanistan wilderness, and Jonathan has to interpret a cryptic message that will allow him to uncover other mysteries and create a unique invention. With his town threatened by a powerful force and a crooked scientist bent on stealing his work, Jonathan will need more than courage to save his city and protect his father’s legacy.
A splendid first entry in The Creation Seekers series, William D. Burt’s The Lake Lights offers great entertainment to readers, a story that explores themes of creationism, religion, faith, and brilliantly presents the proverbial conflict between good and evil. The characters are well-developed and readers will enjoy following the protagonist and his grandfather as they work together. The antagonist is created to fit the role he plays in the story and is a character that will inspire feelings of apprehension and mistrust in readers. This is a story for readers who love mystery and adventure, a story that is well-plotted and executed with mastery. I enjoyed the graceful flow of the prose and the witticism that punctuates the narrative. It’s a very entertaining story.
