Joanne is a fourth generation New Zealander of mixed English and German descent. Her childhood was spent on a dairy farm near Napier and a sheep farm near Wanganui.
Her book " “The Kingdom, Here Be Dragons, Here Be Dreams" is a tale about good versus evil in a spiritual quest spanning four generations. The story is set in the Kingdom of God, and in beautiful, remote New Zealand – God’s own country.

The Kingdom: Here Be Dragons, Here Be Dreams by Joanne Rolston is a Christian fantasy story that would appeal most to a mixed audience of Christian young adults and adults who enjoy fantasy and memoirs. Joanna is the great-great-granddaughter of a German immigrant called Anna Dassler whom God promised the blessing of an open heaven upon her children who kept faith in him. Joanna grew up in a large household with two parents who had little time or care for her or her siblings. As Joanna grows up, she begins to find God in her heart and throughout her troubles she comes to understand that she can turn to Him for counsel. Will Joanna find herself welcomed into the kingdom of heaven or will she be led astray?
The Kingdom: Here Be Dragons, Here Be Dreams by Joanne Rolston was an interesting mix of Joanne’s life and fantasy elements, with a beautiful cover that showed both Joanne and one of the settings in the book. One of the aspects of the story that I truly enjoyed was the way the author wrote the dialogue from God using parts of the Bible. The incorporation of the Bible verses made God’s dialogue seem all the more believable. My favorite part was the very beginning that focused on Anna Dassler, as it gave me an understanding of Joanne’s ancestors and how their lives in turn impacted hers. Overall, I really enjoyed this book, but when I finished reading it I felt that I wanted to know more about Joanne’s siblings.
