The Keepers of Elenath is overall a good story. The author has an Appendix at the end to help you figure out who the main characters are. I found this very helpful and have used the idea in my own books.
The story is about good people who want to save their beloved land from the darkness that wants to engulf them. Their hopes are set on the great king who created them all. Yet he can’t do it for himself nor he can force his love or peace to any of them. Many are still dulled to the idea that nothing is going on in their great country or that it is only the evil queen that is the cause of their suffering. They are also others that aren’t yet ready to decide what side they will take if the impending war breaks out. This all changes when they realize that the queen isn’t working alone and that behind her is a greater evil; an evil that could overcome them easily.
Dark powers from a forgotten past have been gathering forces for centuries and are ready to take their place in the land. Many events have shown to those who are weary of looking for the signs that malignant times are there and the fulfillment of prophecies will come to pass in their lifetime. The only way they can conquer their enemy is for the humans, elfs, half elfs, etels, and gnomes to stand together in a task that can defeat the black forces.
This High Fantasy novel has good characters, although at times they seem to do things out of character. The story flows well. It could use a bit of editing to smooth some rough edges. At the very end is a letter or a prayer from the author to give the reader an idea of why she wrote this book and what she wishes for our future.
