The Joy of Cruising: Passionate Cruisers, Fascinating Stories is a topical work of non-fiction and travel writing penned by author Paul C Thornton. The culture of cruising can be one in which people get really enthralled and passionate, and this book seeks to discover those different personality types and why they are drawn to the cruising lifestyle in their enthusiasm for world travel. There are different perspectives from seasoned travelers, including colorful characters with interesting pasts, but also the more ordinary everyman type cruisers who are new to the cruising world. What they all have in common is the desire to see and be at sea.
As someone who loves cruises myself, I found this collection of tales, anecdotes, and mini-adventures to be really engaging and fun. Author Paul C Thornton has created a passionate and positive book for hobbyists and newcomers alike, recollecting exactly what is so captivating about taking a cruise as opposed to any other kind of holiday. The narrative is friendly and highly informative, as well as descriptive of all kinds of cruises and the passengers which they attract. There is also a great inclusion of imagery to accompany the different storylines of different cruisers, and an interesting consideration for the social qualities of the people onboard and what attracts them to the lifestyle itself. Overall, The Joy of Cruising: Passionate Cruisers, Fascinating Stories is certainly a fulfilling read for cruise travel fans themselves, but will also offer insight for those outside its world to the reality of what makes cruisers such passionate people.
