"The Jackal and the Giant" is a fantasy adventure story with Seth as an unlikely hero. He enters a different world after escaping from a bully. The story unfolds as his hiding place number seventeen at Stony Brook Middle School is discovered by Jacklyn, also called the Jackal. In trying to escape from her, he enters a world of magic. This is where his exciting adventure happens. He discovers that he lost his shadow and finds himself in the company of a giant who gives him the task of rescuing a damsel in distress. At the same time, there is a monster that is hunting him. Will Seth prove himself, find his shadow and his way out of the other world?
This is a coming of age story with an array of delightful characters. Giant, beast, dragon, talking animals and giant bird are just some of the characters Seth gets to meet in a fantasy world. He is a boy who is being bullied in school, so he creates his own world so that he can escape from the harsh realities of the human world. Bullying has become such an alarming problem for teenagers that it can affect their lives adversely forever. In this story, the main character overcomes the peer pressure he is subjected to and becomes a confident boy who is ready to take control of his life. This is certainly an inspiring narrative for all the teenagers out there. One of the most important lessons that I got out of "The Jackal and the Giant" is that we have to face our own demons so that we can find ways to conquer them. Written in just the right pace and in simple words, this is a must read for every young adult who lives in the human world.
